It’s the sweet aroma of chocolate and coffee, that hits you as soon as you come through the big double doors of this hidden delight. The gorgeous young couple, Emily and Reece opened Yallingup Chocolate & their sister company, Commonage Coffee early in July 2021 and have not looked back since. A visit is a must on the list when your exploring the southwest. Its a lovely place to indulge and unwind and for the whole family ( even the furry members are welcome ) to enjoy.

Welcome to chocolate lovers paradise – tucked away in the bush on the outskirts of town lies this sweet tooth oasis. Stepping into Yallingup Chocolate is like stepping in the dream of a 9-year-old with a sugar high. Imagine walls lined with Rocky Road, freckles, chocolate covered nuts, chocolate dipped marshmallows – and oh my god – dusted chocolate caramel popcorn!

This time of year is a time where indulging is a bit more allowed and believe me, I will use my Easter get out of jail card on Yallingup Chocolate's delectable treats. It’s a little overwhelming, definitely in a good way, my mouth is watering and the list that I want to take home is growing by the minute...

Not only can you stock up on these yummy locally made treats, you can also sit and enjoy their in-house roasted coffee. Commonage Coffee Co is set in the same building, just peek through to the cafe and choose either to sit outdoors under the majestic gums or inside on one of their many pieces of eclectic vintage furniture. The lineup of surfboards next to the roasting machine gives it a very homely feel and is an acknowledgement of our local surf culture. You will be tempted not only by the chocolate next door but by the delicious assortment of toasted sandwiches, muffins and cake that are available to complement the delicious roasted coffee.

As I fill my basket with more treats (for work purposes only of course), I notice the incredible variety and array of shapes and sizes on offer. These guys have really gone above and beyond – I had to find out more...

Emily tell us about your chocolate journey and why you chose the yummy combination of chocolate and coffee.

We gave alot of thought about what we could potentially add to our space that would complement our coffee and we decided there was no better combination than the ‘perfect pair’ of coffee and chocolate. Our initial thought was stocking chocolate covered coffee beans and the idea, brand and style grew from there! We wanted to create a fun, family friendly, down south ‘surfy’ vibe and especially wanted that ‘wow’ factor when you first walk in.

You have some really unique chocolate like the surf blocks. These are a great gift idea and I love the packaging! How did you come across the incredible images you use and a little about the different varieties available?

These are definitely our little dedication to the south west. We love the south west lifestyle and wanted to create something special that really complements the area as surfing is an interest of ours. We sat down with Jim King who has been a local down here for many years and he shared a few special images with us, along with many stories and memories! Jim even features in one of the images. Ric Chan also gave us approval for using these historic images he took himself! We are so lucky.

At Humidity we do love a guilt-free treat. All of your chocolates are already gluten-free but what would you say is your healthiest chocolate option in store?

I would recommend any of our dark chocolate options. We have dark chocolate covered orange & mango slices, they are one of our biggest sellers - not only are they gluten-free, but vegan too!

Emily, out of the impressive range you offer in store, what would be your most favourite (which I am sure is such a hard decision) and are there any new additions to the Yallingup Chocolate array that you could share with us?

We will have a few new exciting products coming soon that are ‘surfing’ related.
I have many favourites but at the moment my two favourite are the peppermint bars and definitely the dark chocolate covered oranges!
